Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente will announce his 26-man squad for Euro 2024 on the 28th of May, and one of the big debates has been whether Isco Alarcon should be called up. The 32-year-old has had an outstanding season with Betis, although he starts at a disadvantage having not been included in any of de la Fuente’s squads over the last 14 months.

Despite this, most are in agreement that Isco should go, and with the squad size increased from 23, he has an increased chance. However, with just 12 days to go until the announcement, he has been forced off during Betis’ match against Las Palmas on Thursday with a worrying-looking ankle injury.

It was a contact injury, so there is perhaps some hope that Isco will be okay. Real Betis would love this to be the case as they continue their pursuit of Europa League qualification, while de la Fuente will also surely be keeping an eye on the situation.
